Spin is live in Austin! 🎉
We’ve been working with closely with UT students, the local community, and WeWork to bring Spin to Austin, and we can’t thank everyone enough for their help.
Austinites are the first in the country to have truly station-less bikeshare. As members of the Spin community, they can pick up our bikes anywhere around town, and drop them off anywhere — responsibly of course — for the next rider. Just by using our app, at $1 a trip.
As we mapped out our expansion throughout the country, Austin quickly rose to the top of the list in the many conversations we had.
The city consistently ranks in the top 10 most bike friendly cities in the US. The government has an ambitious $151M biking plan, which calls for an additional 200 miles of bike facilities. Austin also hosts one of the best campuses in the country with UT. And just last year, Austinites voted to fight congestion by approving $70M for bike-related projects, with the goal of converting 7% of central-city car trips to bike trips.
All this jives with our vision, and makes Austin the perfect fit for Spin.
Austin is an incredibly important city for us. The Spin founding team is on the ground to make sure the rollout goes smoothly and neatly (come say hi!). As we expand our coverage area, we look forward to working with the Transportation Department to responsibly provide affordable and accessible transport to everyone in the city.
And lastly, to celebrate our launch, we’ll be donating to the Bike Austin Education Fund and the Yellow Bike Project.
These are amazing organizations, and we fully support their goal to make Austin an even better place for cyclists.
So look out for our bright orange bikes, treat them nicely, and definitely give them a spin!
