Hey Lady! is a B2C SAAS company on a mission to spark one billion conversations between women of different cultures. We're not a language school or another AI app, we're a community that's all about helping people have real conversations with other people. Our online platform makes it easy to meet and make friends to practise speaking English via video in a safe, supportive online environment. We do more than make introductions; our team offers interesting topics to explore, supported by learning materials so our members can experience different conversations in different contexts with people who have different accents.. it's a training ground for the real world.

Problem statement

Learning English is tough! Especially when you consider it takes 500 hours or more of actual speaking time to get from textbook English to real world English where you can open the door to new opportunities in your life and career. Unless you can afford to pay for that by the hour or you have the time to and patience to wade through random strangers online.. for the 1.6 billion people on earth learning to speak English, just finding someone genuine and reliable to practise with regularly, is really hard! ..especially for women, who face a unique set of additional challenges.

Traction information

When we first came up with this idea we created a free Facebook group that grew to 30,000 women in under 6 months. We knew there was a need for our solution. Since then we've been through various iterations to test our solution on 3rd party platforms, each with paying customers. We took investment 2 years ago and have now built our own software. In the last 4 months we have tripled in size to 1000+ members from 118 countries and are seeing a 7X return on ad spend.
