The financial markets are not truly democratized. The system is far removed from retail investors ability to simply purchase asset classes, there is no governance built in. There is a lack of representations at public companies as proxy voting is an extremely convoluted & difficult process, and investors’ voting rights are lost through securities lending. There is a lack of accessibility, as everyday investors have limited access to anything close to the wealth management tools used by high-net-worth investors. Finally there is a lack of transparency in the companies people invest in as well as how their orders are executed. There exist no easy-to-use tools for investors to align their investments with companies who share their vision and values.
