About NanoEar Corporation, Inc.

NanoEar is a biotech startup aimed at developing the world's smallest hearing aid. Our founders bring clinical, engineering, and financial expertise to the development of this revolutionary hearing aid. Our company's advisors bring world class experience. They include a NASA battery expert, MIT trained ASIC designer, and a 3rd generation master watchmaker to build our prototypes who also happens to have been the lead guitarist for Anthrax. We are working with University of Antwerp for FEA modeling and cadaveric testing of the middle ear, Tulane University for animal tissue engineering, and University of Rochester for advanced battery developments.

Problem statement

There are 466 million people who suffer from hearing loss worldwide. In the US and in many other western countries there is only a 20-30% adoption of today’s hearing technologies. Untreated hearing loss, can lead to a reduction in productivity, loss of jobs, emotional distress and even cognitive disorders like anxiety, depression, and dementia. The most common reasons for lack of hearing aid adoption are: stigma, cost, hassle with batteries, poor fit, and the perception that hearing aids offer limited benefit. The current global hearing aid market is $7B annually. Given the low adoption rates, positive demographics, and the desire for improved hearing aid quality, NanoEar is poised to take advantage of a severely under-penetrated market.

Traction information

Development of our FEA analysis and cadaver middle ear testing proved the concept that transtympanic stimulation can and will produce the desired maximum auditory output. Our battery prototype proved that we can produce sufficient energy to power NanoEar. At present our battery is the world's smallest wirelessly rechargeable solid state lithium ion battery. In collaboration with university researchers additional advances in our battery chemistry have significantly increased its energy density. Animal research has helped to improve the design and tissue-device interface.
We have 9 issued patents which help to encourage creativity in our IP protected space as we progress to prototype development.
